Top 10 Best Dressed Women At The 2024 Met Gala: My Picks

Photo: Dia Dipasupi/Getty Images

The Met Gala week is upon us—not really; it was almost a month ago. I am just getting to do my review now about the event, but hey, it's better late than never or whatever was said.

The Met Gala happened like it always does on the first Monday of May. It is known as the "Crème de la crème " of fashion events around the globe, Where celebrities collaborate with fashion designers and brands to showcase their fashion choices according to the year's Met Gala. Their job is to walk those stairs with their clothes, and our job is to judge the clothes they wear, and oh boy, is it fun.

This year's Met Gala theme was "The Garden of Time," inspired by J.G Ballard's short story of the same name, which is a story about a garden owner of a garden of Crystal Flowers that has the power to reverse time. The story talks about the passage of time and how the garden became a stone after the last of his crystal flowers were picked out by him while trying to stop the mob from coming for him and his wife. Apart from the passage of time, the story explores other themes like change and certainty, which I had hoped the stars would incorporate into their outfits.

Another theme the stars were also expected to incorporate into their outing is the 2024 Exhibition titled "Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening of Fashion." We know the story of the sleeping beauty. Based on the themes, I thought this would be one of the most interesting Met Galas of recent times.

I thought many stars would give us a look based on the themes for this year. There were many things they could play around with and add to their outfits, but unfortunately, I wouldn't say I liked many dresses worn on the red carpet. Nevertheless, I was still able to pick ten celebrities who I thought killed at the 2024 Met Gala, and they are,

Zendaya Wearing Maison Margiela Couture

The first of four, Zendaya, showed up and showed out in custom Maison Margiela gowns. She looked like a painting from the medieval era. This dress is one of my favorite things of the night. The gown's color suits her skin, and she is on the theme, as the gown seems to represent a crystal flower.

Taylor Russel Wearing Loewe

I loved everything about this look. She ate from head to toe. Her hair was well laid, her face was well beaten (with makeup, of course), her skin was glowing, and the dress was perfect!!! The beautiful thing about this moment is that this was Taylor Russel's debut at the Met Gala, so in my Lady Whistledown voice, "Lady Taylor Russel makes her Met Gala debut, the event for elite fashionistas in the entertainment industry. Miss Taylor Russel captured the interest of audiences both far and wide in a Loewe dress; the top was made out of actual wood that was molded into her body, and a white draped skirt represented the stem of a flower. Perhaps she is this season's precious gem? Well, yes, she has been named the diamond of the season."

Kendall Jenner Wearing Givenchy Couture

Kendall Jenner killed it on the Met Gala red carpet this year. She showed up in a Givenchy couture piece from the Fall of 1999. Her hair was styled to suit the dress. She was going for the evil fairy look in "Sleeping Beauty" (Maleficent?). I think she pulled it off. Looking at her in this dress, I could immediately tell what she was going for. "Oh, ye evilness!!!."

Tyla Wearing Balmain

The South African star makes her Met Gala debut in her Balmain body cast dress made of sand, which also fits the event's theme. How do you plant flowers without sand? Suppose I take it one step further. In that case, it also involved sand when Maleficent Raven Diablo was turned into status at the end of Sleeping Beauty; she wanted to go with the sand elements because both themes had sand elements in their stories. I thought she looked like the female drawing on the Sand Card from the cards in Cardcaptor Sakura (My Anime fans will know what I am talking about). I absolutely loved this look. She nailed it with the hair, makeup, and the glass hour accessory, representing the passage of time, which was perfectly put together.

Elle Fanning Wearing Balmain

Elle Fanning showed up on the red carpet in a crystal-looking frost-like Balmain dress and a sculptural bird on the shoulder, giving her this crystal fairy look that perfectly fits the event's theme.

Gigi Hadid Wearing Thom Browne

Wearing a stunning white gown by Thom Browne, Gigi Hadid looked beautiful in her off-the-shoulder dress with a rose-tuxedo jacket-shaped train. She was wearing flowers, her own way of interpreting the theme "Garden of Time." I won't be surprised if one of the flowers on her dress is a crystal flower that can stop time (won't that be great?). This beautiful gown showed Gigi's personal style, a testament to why she is one of the top supermodels in the world.

Anok Yai Wearing Swarovski

Black Barbie!! She is the real-life black Barbie; the supermodel stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet in a jumpsuit with over 90,000 Swarovski crystals, which look like water droplets covering her from her shoulders down to her toes. Like her other African sister, Tyla, Anok Yai interpreted the event's theme differently by incorporating the water element into her outfit. I mean, how can one make a garden with water. Her outfit reminded me of a quote by my favorite K-pop star, Hwasa, which says, "Even in the rain pouring down, flowers bloom." That may be the statement Anok Yai was trying to convey with this look (I mean, in the literal sense ).

Eiza Gonzalez Wearing Del Core

The Mexican actress/singer looked gorgeous in her custom-made Del Core. She looked like a fairy and a flower simultaneously; if I were to name her dress, I would call it the "Blooming Flower Fairy," like the fairy who makes flowers bloom. I loved the color choice and how well the dress sat on her body. She looked totally breathtaking; it felt like a real-life fairy who attended the Met.

Nicki Minaj Wearing Marni

Oh My God!!! I don't think anyone on the Met 2024 red carpet Flowered like Nicki Minaj Flowered. The Queen of Rap stepped onto the Met red carpet in a yellow custom dress by Marni creative director Francescoo Risso made from recycled metals. It was a stunning flower sculpture dress that fit in very well with the theme of the day; this dress from the rapper is no surprise to anyone since she is very well known for her camp style. Personally, I thought this was the best look of the night.

Lana Del Rey Wearing Alexander McQueen

Honestly, I don't know what to say about this dress, only that it fits the theme (it's hard to miss that point), it was very creative to have the tree branches locked out of the tulle canopy. It's not a stunning outfit, but its aesthetics landed it on this list.
